  4.  Maurice Randall is working on an
  5. upgraded disk operating system for the
  6. CMD Hard Drive (which Maurice now
  7. manufactures and sells). The latest
  8. improvement is a built-in printer
  9. spooler. Here's Maurice to tell you
  10. about it:

  13.     This HD is amazing me! As I play
  14. with it I'm having fun trying it out.
  15. These machines are remarkable devices.
  16.  
  17.     Today I booted up into Wheels and
  18. printed a geoWrite file. I'm using a
  19. dot-matrix printer for testing. The
  20. slowness of it gives me time to try
  21. various things.
  22.  
  23.     Anyway, geoWrite started sending
  24. the data, the HD intercepted it and
  25. began storing the data to its printer
  26. partition. Almost immediately, it also
  27. began spooling it off to the real
  28. printer. It didn't take long for the
  29. entire geoWrite file to be captured by
  30. the HD.

  32.     I then exited geoWrite back to the
  33. Dashboard. The HD was still sending
  34. data to the printer.

  36.     I copied a couple of files to the
  37. HD. Even during the copying process,
  38. data continued to go to the printer.
  39. The printer was happily chugging away.
  40. I ran a few applications from the HD.
  41. They loaded fine even while printing
  42. was taking place. I was very pleased
  43. to see that the Wheels disk driver
  44. turbo code running in the HD wasn't
  45. interferring with the print spooler!
  46. (Note: I planned it that way four
  47. years ago!)

  49.     I then exited the current app and
  50. returned to the Dashboard. I clicked
  51. on the menu to exit back to BASIC. The
  52. HD was still working on that geoWrite
  53. file even while in BASIC.

  55.     I loaded up CMD's FCOPY and copied
  56. some files to and from the HD. I
  57. exited FCOPY. I did @$=P to view the
  58. partition directory. I found the
  59. Loadstar partition and switched to it.
  60. The printer was still going.
  61. Dot-matrix printers are great for this
  62. test!

  64.     I loaded up Loadstar and messed
  65. around looking at stuff, loading stuff
  66. and such. The geoWrite file was still
  67. coming out of the printer. While
  68. reading a text file from the Loadstar
  69. Presenter, I pressed 'P' to print it.
  70. It spooled off to the HD's printer
  71. partition at the same time the
  72. geoWrite file was still going to the
  73. printer.

  75.     I exited Loadstar and booted back
  76. into Wheels and got back to some
  77. programming. The geoWrite file finally
  78. finished printing.

  80.     And lo and behold, the text file
  81. from the Loadstar partition started
  82. coming out of the printer while I was
  83. running Concept and assembling a file.

  90. to prove it! I am determined to get my
  91. C-64 system up to snuff in 2002 -- and
  92. a HD is definitely on the list of
  93. needed upgrades!
